Meet The Press Observations
May 4th, 2008 -- Posted in American Politics | 2 Comments »Meet The Press aired at 10pm GMT on CNBC here in Ireland and I found the discussion to be quite concise compared to ABC’s previous debate. To my best estimations, they spent 5 min out of the 45 min of total discussion talking about Rev. Wright which is not too bad given the circumstances of the last week but still far too much in my opinion. Once Tim Russert changed the topic from the Rev. Wright saga, the discussion moved at a fairly quick pace through issues of the economy, campaign and national security. Senator Obama performed as most of us would have expected, he outlined his viewpoint in his typical eloquent fashion and I would say came out of the whole experience a little better for wear. I did have one point of issue with the discussion and that was Senator Obama’s lack of a strong response to the issue of whether he is “Tough Enough.” He basically answered this question by stating that he is ready to step up to the plate but did not give a concrete reason as to why he would be better than Senator Clinton as far as convincing the super-delegates. My reason would have been that he is the main attraction within the Democratic Party for younger voters. Hillary Clinton would most likely lose because all the young people would abstain or vote for Senator McCain if she won because of a perceived strength on the part of the super-delegates. I don’t have any definitive numbers to prove this theory as of yet but I shall endeavor to look for them during the week.
The New York Times has an excellent article about the lack of play of the Rev. Hagee videos in the mainstream media. Rev. Hagee is as bad as Rev. Wright if not worse yet somehow his videos have missed all the main news channels. I am not going to post one here at the moment because this is about Meet The Press but I shall find something appropriate to begin the Monday with tomorrow. I wanted to end of this Sunday night with my favorite clip from Meet The Press where Senator Obama talks about his energy policy.
Edit: 5 May 1324pm GMT - Trust MSNBC to have the wrong code for embedding their video’s, wanted to apologize to everyone who tried to watch this. This is the same video but with good old reliable YouTube.
