Well Senator Edwards endorsed Senator Obama last night in the most polite way possible without even insulting Senator Clinton in any way or form. That wasn’t good enough for some Hillary supporters on Hillaryis44.org who are quoted saying:
We never had much use for John Edwards. We never really bothered to write much about him. Only rarely during the campaign did we take note of his efforts.
If John Edwards had come out and endorsed Senator Clinton, well that might have been a different story and we would have never seen such a line on a democratic site but this proves the polarized nature of the Clinton supporters. Many political commentators in the past few weeks have talked about polling data which suggests that Senator Clinton’s following would be less inclined to vote for Senator Obama if he won the nomination. Some of my fellow liberal bloggers do not believe that and i would tend to agree with them except when it comes to the older demographic and the majority of older latino voters. That being said, Emilia over at eyesonobama.com has written an excellent piece on how Senator Obama is changing the way the Democratic party will win the general election. John King with that “cool” election LCD also demonstrated before Larry King yesterday on how Senator Obama could win the necessary electoral college votes. It was quite different from the traditional methodology of you “must” win PA, WV etc. I think that is what a lot of commentators have lost during the past few weeks in that Senator Obama is running a radically different campaign and he has a definitive plan on how to win and will probably do so.
My theory on the Edwards endorsement is that the Democratic Party leaders have had a meeting and said that Senator Obama is the nominee. In order to appease Clinton supporters and heal the party, they have allowed her to continue on but pressed the remaining Superdelegates and anyone with some political power to openly endorse Senator Obama so that this drawn out process can be done by the end of May. What does everyone else think? To answer the question to what a alot of people have been asking; Yes, I think the endorsement does matter and it will help Senator Obama.

Good piece. I was happy to see Edwards’ endorsement last night. I originally supported him in the campaign.
I know many people in both camps have stated that they would not vote for the opposing candidate should they become the nominee. I think many who held those views will come around and support whoever the nominee is. Both Clinton and Obama share very similar ideals and both are far from Bush-like McCain.

Thanks for stopping by RR, I really hope you are right though about people in both camps supporting the democratic nominee but part of me seriously worries about that.
Great post for yourself by the way on the situation in Myanmar, I did have a quick question, how come you don’t allow comments? The situation in Myanmar is terrible and that secret reporter in CNN is doing alot of good. I just wish we could get the aid to the people that really need it.

Once Obama is officially the nominee I’m sure Clinton will get behind him and let her follows know they need to do the same.
Thanks for checking out the Myanmar piece. Be sure to check the Amnesty link that send a message to the Myanmar government.
Regarding blog comments…
I’ve decided to disable the comments for several reasons:
1) I run a business that has nothing to do with politics or RR and I simply don’t have the time to review and/or respond to comments.
2) The most vocal right-wing pundits here in the states don’t allow comments on their sites/blogs unless you want to pay a membership fee. Fox News, the right wing’s most vocal and viewable proponent here in the U.S. doesn’t have a ‘fair and balanced’ venue for opposing views. This is where most ALL Republicans get their news. Several conservative blogs either don’t allow comments or they censor them. I’ve decided to tell it like I see it similar to these information sources. I do accept comments via email and will post and respond if they’re legitimate issues presented in a civil manner.

Hey RR, I did check out the Amnesty link as far as Shi Tao was concerned but I will do the same for the Myanmar government. I totally understand the comments thing now. It does take up alot of time and unless you have loads of it, it doesn’t make sense moderating comments.
I do totally agree with the approach of telling it like you see it. If I have any thoughts on future subjects, I will make sure to drop you an email then. I take the email addy is the same one used on the comment?
